Whether you’re interested in a one-week or two-week student internship or a voluntary placement with us, you’ll gain insight into our daily operations. You will not only be looking over the shoulders of our employees, but you will also be actively working and part of the team. We can offer you an internship in the following areas:

  • Assembly, workshop/control cabinet construction
  • IT department
  • Automation technology


The two-week internship is divided into two weeks, with one week spent in each of the areas mentioned above. This way, you will gain a comprehensive understanding of the various professional fields. Of course, we will coordinate this with you.

What you can expect with us:

  • The basics of IT and network technology
    You will be introduced to the fundamental structures of IT systems and networks at the start of your training. You will become familiar with the hardware components, learn how networks are structured and how different systems communicate with each other.
  • Planning and setting up networks
    One important part of the training is learning to set up and configure networks. You will learn how to set up servers, securely configure networks, and manage user rights so that systems run optimally and securely.
  • System administration and maintenance
    You will deal intensively with system administration, learn how to install operating systems, update software and perform regular maintenance. This way, you can be certain that everything runs smoothly and that problems are identified at an early stage.
  • Error analysis and troubleshooting
    If a system does not work as expected, your job will be to analyse and rectify the problem. You will learn how to diagnose faults, develop solutions and help customers or colleagues with IT problems.
  • IT security and data protection
    IT security is a key aspect of training. You will learn how to protect systems from attacks, secure data, and comply with data protection legislation.
  • Practical projects and teamwork
    We use practical projects to promote learning. You will work closely with other trainees and specialists to implement projects, learn how to communicate effectively, and solve problems as a member of a team.
  • Customer and service orientation
    You will be expected to help users and explain technical issues in an understandable way during your day-to-day work. Thus, your role will be both technical and customer-oriented.

Office management assistant (m/f/d)

What you can expect with us:

  • School education at the Johann-Philipp-Reis School, Weinheim
  • Commercial administrative activities
  • Correspondence with customers and business partners
  • Organisational and commercial administrative activities

What you will bring with you:

  • A secondary school leaving certificate or an entrance qualification for a university of applied sciences, with good grades in German and maths
  • Motivation, reliability and the ability to work in a team
  • A diligent and independent way of working
  • Experience in using MS Office
  • Basic knowledge of English
  • Basic understanding of technical matters

What you can expect with us:

During your training, you will be involved in key departments such as the secretariat, purchasing, bookkeeping and accounting, human resources, and the warehouse. You will assist us in operational processes and familiarise yourself with every operational procedure.

Dual study programme - your chance to combine theory and practice

HMR offers a dual study programme in electrical engineering and automation.

The dual study programme (sandwich course) is a middle ground between vocational training and traditional studies, and combines theory and practice.
Qualification: Bachelor of Engineering
The theoretical phase takes place at the Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University in Mannheim, the practical phase in-house at HMR.

Are you studying electrical engineering or computer science and interested in being actively involved in interesting projects in automation technology, drive technology and/or process technology? Then you’ll be right at home with us!

You will be assigned a dedicated mentor who will be responsible for your personal needs during your time with us. After your internship, there will usually be nothing that stands in the way of direct employment. Many of our current employees joined the company in precisely this way.

Bachelor’s and Master’s theses at HMR

Are you studying electrical engineering or computer science and would like to be actively involved in interesting projects in automation technology, drive technology and/or process technology?

We offer you the opportunity to write your Bachelor’s or Master’s thesis with us. After the internships, you will have already gained some basic practical experience, which you will now be able to use optimally in preparing a Bachelor’s thesis.

Bachelor’s or Master’s theses usually represent the way into professional life.
You will be directly involved in our projects. You will also interact with our clients and, together with your team, ensure the success of a wide variety of challenging projects. You will also be assigned a dedicated mentor who will be responsible for your personal needs during your time with us.
